Why measuring matters
Measuring gives the dress a target size
Measuring gives the dress a target size. When customer measurements are available, your finished dress is compared against them to determine Fit.

Without those measurements there is nothing to compare against, and Fit drops out of the evaluation entirely.
The three measurements
Bust, waist and hips
A client is measured in three places, and the finished dress is checked against all of them.
- BustThe chest measurement used when checking the fit of the finished dress.
- WaistThe waist measurement used as part of the fit comparison.
- HipsThe hip measurement used as part of the fit comparison.
The three are read together, so a dress that matches one measurement can still miss the others.
Measuring workflow
From meeting the client to reading the fit
Six steps take a client from introduction to a fitted dress.
- 01Meet the clientThe client arrives with their own measurements, and the dress starts from that target.
- 02Take the available measurementsWhatever measurements the client offers become the target the dress is built against.
- 03Record Bust, Waist and HipsAll three are recorded, because all three are compared later.
- 04Size the dress around those measurementsThe dress is shaped so its own measurements sit as close to the target as you can get them.
- 05Finish the dressOnce the dress is complete, its own measurements are what get compared.
- 06Fit is evaluated from the differencesThe gaps between the dress and the client produce the Fit score.
How fit works
Fit comes from how close the measurements are
Fit starts high when the dress measurements closely match the client. Larger differences across bust, waist and hips reduce the Fit score quickly.
- Closer match — higher Fit
- Larger mismatch — lower Fit
Because the differences are squared, larger sizing mistakes hurt Fit much more than tiny ones.

Fit = 100 × clamp01( 1 − 200 × ( BustDiff² + WaistDiff² + HipsDiff² ) )
Very small differences under 0.01 are treated as zero.

FitOne component of Quality when measurements are used.
QualityOverall construction quality based on Grain, Fit and Sewing Accuracy.
Grain and Sewing Accuracy count too, so Fit is never the whole of Quality.

Compare the three differences first, then act on the largest one.

Adjust the dress sizing rather than changing decorative elements.
Decoration, cloth and accessories move style and cost, not the measurement gap, so a Fit problem is a sizing problem.
