Dressmaker Unlock Help
Why Is This Item Locked or Missing?
First check whether the item is genuinely not unlocked yet — or whether something you already earned is missing from the current game state. Those are two different problems, and only one of them is answered by raising a friendship level.
- Read from data snapshot 25482629, current release Build 410. Last checked September 28, 2026.
- 861 obtainable items across 10 characters in this build
- No published patch note has changed relationship unlocks
What are you seeing?
Four things a screen can tell you, and where each one is answered on this page.
- It has a locked stateThere is a gate, so this is a progression answer. Find out which one.
- I can't find the pattern at allNo lock icon means no gate is being shown, which is not the same problem.
- I had it before, but now it's goneAn item that was in your hands is a game-state question first.
- I don't know how this item unlocksStart from how unlocks work, then look your item up by name.
Every claim below says how strongly it is known. The counts and the unlock structure come from the game's own files; what players report about missing items is labelled as a report, because that is what it is.
Before anything else
Locked is not the same as missing
Almost every guide answers this question with "raise your friendship level". That is right about half the time, and wrong in a way that costs a player a week of the wrong work the other half. These two situations look similar on a menu and could not be more different underneath.
Two paths, and only one of them is progression
The item was never earned
You are seeing a gate: a lock icon, a greyed-out swatch, or a pattern that is not in your list because a level has not been reached. Something in the game is still holding it, and the question is which thing.
Answer: find the unlock source. This page and the unlock finder both do that.
The item was earned and is not there
You have seen it, placed it, or cut it before, and it is gone from the list now — or a pattern piece you already used has vanished from the table. Nothing in the progression system takes an item back, so the requirement is probably not the thing to change.
Answer: look at the current game state and version rather than at requirements.
The distinction is not pedantry. A player who raises a friendship level to recover an item that is only failing to draw has burned the same evening twice: they are no closer, and they have been told the system works differently than it does.
It says locked — now what?
Which kind of item is it?
The three collectable catalogues do not share a progression ladder, and treating them as one is how a player ends up raising a friendship to get cloth. Work out which of the three you are looking at before you decide what to do about it.
Pattern
178 obtainable in this build
Character relationship level
Patterns are the catalogue with a reason behind the lock. In the extracted build they hang off a character's relationship levels, and nothing attaches one to a finished commission — so a pattern still behind a level is working exactly as intended.
Fabric
352 obtainable in this build
Prestige progression
Cloth does not come from friendships. The fabrics in this build are either in the starting set or behind the prestige ladder, so raising a relationship to get a fabric is work in the wrong system entirely.
Accessory
331 obtainable in this build
Prestige progression, or no route
Decorations use the same ladder as fabrics, with one extra case on top: a large group of accessories ships in the data with no obtainable route at all. Those are not waiting for a level — they are developer rows.
This is also why this page asks the question at all. A single "keep playing" answer for all three catalogues is only correct for one of them, and it is the wrong one for the catalogue most players are stuck on.
Patterns, the important case
How a pattern is actually unlocked
In the extracted build, 117 patterns are handed over by a character's relationship level, 40 are in the starting set, and 21 carry no documented source. That is the whole pattern unlock system: a level, and nothing else.
Levels run from 1 to 5 for the characters in this build, and the pattern a level grants is recorded as part of that character's own data. So the honest answer to "how do I unlock this pattern" always has the same shape — a character and a level — and never the shape of a quest standing between you and the item.

Why a commission is not a requirement
The build records unlocks against levels and records no unlock against a brief. So a page that printed "complete commission X to unlock pattern Y" would be inventing a requirement the game does not have — and it would be wrong the moment a different commission moved the relationship just as far.
The most common misunderstanding
I completed the commission. Why is the pattern still locked?
Because completing a commission and unlocking a pattern are not the same event. The commission moves the relationship; the relationship level is what hands the pattern over. A commission that moves the bar from partway through level 2 to just under level 3 has done its job perfectly and unlocked nothing.
What a commission actually does
- Commission completed
- Relationship increases
- New relationship level?
The two outcomes, both normal
A new level was reached
The pattern attached to that rung is now yours. If it is still not usable, that is the starting-item problem, not a progression one.
No new level was reached
The relationship moved but the rung above you did not fall. Keep working that character — this is the ordinary case, not a bug.
This is also why a strong result on a commission can feel like it should have unlocked more than it did: it can push a relationship across more than one threshold at once, in which case several patterns arrive together, and it can also land just short of the next one, in which case nothing does. Neither is a fault in the system.
Who unlocks what
Unlock patterns by character
Every pattern a relationship grants belongs to exactly one character. If you know which client holds the pattern you want, this is the fastest way in — and each card opens that character's own page with their ladders on it.
- AdoraRelationship levels 1–510 patterns on their ladder8 commissions to work throughView unlocks

The three numbers on each card are the three a player actually decides with: how far the ladder runs, how much it hands over, and how much work that character represents. The pattern list itself lives on the character's page, so this board stays a decision rather than a catalogue.
Find why this item is locked
Type a pattern, fabric or accessory. This is the same lookup the unlock tool runs, so the answer here and the answer there cannot disagree — and a name the build ships without a route is refused rather than given an invented condition.
Try searching for:
Nothing you type is stored. The address bar carries the question so a link can be shared, and the answer is recomputed from the same index the unlock database renders.
The pattern is not there at all
I can't find the pattern anywhere
A pattern you never see is a different problem from a pattern you cannot use, and the first question is not which requirement is missing — it is whether a lock icon is being drawn at all. That single detail decides which half of this page you are on.
Can you see the pattern with a lock icon on it? Yes means the item is there and gated. No means the question is not about progression at all.
- Yes — it is listed, with a lockThen nothing is lost and nothing is broken. It is an ordinary unlock, and the lock is pointing at a relationship level or a prestige gate.
- No — it is not listed at allLook the name up first, before assuming anything. Some names in circulation — from data lists, screenshots or other sites — belong to rows with no unlock route, and those are never going to appear in your list.
- It should be available alreadyIf the build says the item is in the starting set or behind a rung you have passed, then a level is not the missing piece. This is the shape of a game-state or version problem rather than a requirement.
- I am not sure which one it isThat is the most common answer, and it is what the search box above is for: one name, and the build's own record of how that item becomes available.
None of this is guesswork. The build says which patterns need a level, which are in the starting set, and which the data ships without a route — so "is this expected to be here" is a question this site can answer rather than a question it has to hand back.
It was there and now it is not
I had it before, but now it's gone
An item disappearing after it was already available is not the same as being locked, and it does not have a progression answer. Nothing in the unlock system takes an item back, so raising a level is not the thing to try.
Patterns and pieces reported missing
Players report patterns and already-cut pieces disappearing from the workbench, and report them coming back after saving and reloading. That is a repeated report about Build 410, not something this site has reproduced or can promise.
Unlocks reported to survive a new save
Players also report the opposite surprise: a new save that still has fabrics and accessories from the old one, even after the old save is removed. This is reported as different from normal character progression, and it should not be read as how an item is meant to be unlocked.
Both of those are reports from players rather than fixes, and this page will not upgrade them into advice. What they do mean is that a display fault is a real category here — so before spending an evening on requirements, reload once and see whether the item is still gone.
The forty that need nothing
Some patterns are unlocked from the very start
The build puts 40 patterns in the set every save begins with. They have no gate at all, which makes them the most useful diagnostic on this page.
Expected from start + not visible = check the game state, not the requirements
If one of those patterns is not in your list, no amount of friendship, prestige or commission work will produce it: there is no ladder between you and it. Only a data-driven site can tell you that a missing item was never gated in the first place — a guide written from memory would send you to raise a relationship that was never the answer.
Why a starting item is the clearest signal
This is the case where "keep playing" is provably the wrong response rather than merely unhelpful. It is also the fastest way to separate the two halves of this page: a starting item that will not appear is not a locked item.
Is this about prestige?
Do I need more prestige for this?
Only for some items, and the field name that makes players ask this question is not a universal gate. Different catalogues use different ladders, and one category uses no ladder at all.
- Pattern
- Usually a character relationship level. In this build, every relationship-granted item is a pattern and no pattern is prestige-gated, so prestige is the wrong lever here.
- Fabric and accessory
- These use their own progression metadata, which for most of the catalogue means the prestige ladder. The item's own page states the gate it actually has.
- Hidden row
- Part of the 326 rows that ship without a route. There is no prestige level that reaches them, and no level that was meant to.
- Disappeared item
- Not progression at all. If something you already had is missing, more prestige changes nothing about it.
The reason this module exists is the `prestigeUnlockLevel` field itself: it appears on every entity record, including the rows where the value means "never", and a player who sees it once tends to conclude that prestige is how the game unlocks things. The row above is the correction.
The vocabulary this site uses
Six states, because “locked” is not one fact
Every obtainable item on this site — all 861 of them — is described with one of these words instead of a locked/unlocked flag. A flag cannot say the one thing a player needs to know, because it is true of a pattern behind level 4, a fabric behind a late prestige gate, and a decoration no save can ever place.
Available
Nothing is holding it in the data, and the rung it would need is one you have already reported reaching. If it is still not in your list, a level will not fix it. This is the one state where a missing item and a met requirement disagree, so treat it as a display or version question.
Starting item
It is in the set every save begins with. No level, no commission and no prestige gate is involved. If it is not on screen, do not go and raise anything. Check the current version and the save you are in.
Relationship unlock
A character's relationship level hands it over. Every one of these in the build is a pattern.Work that character and watch the relationship bar, not the commission list. The level is the gate; the commission is only how the level moves.
Progression unlock
It is behind the game's prestige progression rather than behind a friendship. Fabrics and accessories use this ladder; patterns do not.Compare its gate with where your prestige actually stands. A single level can sit a long way past your current one.
Not normally obtainable
The item exists in the game's data, but the extracted build gives it no player-facing unlock route at all.Stop looking. No amount of playing moves this item, and the search box above says so rather than inventing a condition for it.
Needs verification
The build does not document where this one comes from, and neither does this site.Treat it as unresolved rather than as locked. If you learn how you got yours, that is exactly the kind of note this page is built to carry.
Only two of the six are answered by playing more. The last one means there is nothing to find, and saying so is the most useful thing a data-driven site can do — the alternative is a player hunting an unlock route that does not exist.
Putting it together
The four answers, and which one is yours
By this point the diagnosis is one of four things, and they lead to four different next actions. The three inputs are already on your screen: whether a lock is drawn, whether the item was ever in your hands, and what the search box above says about the item's obtainability.
This is an ordinary unlock
Something in the build still holds the item, and it is almost always a rung you have not reached. Look the item up by name and the page will name the ladder and the level rather than describing a category.
This may not be a progression problem
The build says the item is in the starting set, or behind a gate you have already passed. If it is still not on screen, another level will not change that — check the current version and the save you are in before you rebuild anything.
This item has no unlock route
It exists in the game's data but sits outside normal progression in this build. There is nothing to find and nothing to raise; the unlock database shows the scale of the group it belongs to.
Check the game state before the requirements
An item that was in your hands and is not there now is a different problem from an item you never earned. Reload once and see whether it returns — players report that it often does — and check the current version if it does not.
Only the first of the four is answered by playing more. That ratio is the whole reason this page exists instead of a single paragraph telling you to raise a friendship.
Don't grind the wrong thing
What actually moves a locked pattern
A locked item usually gets one piece of advice — play more — and most of the things a player then does are in systems that cannot affect it. Being specific about what is not involved is the part that saves the evening.
What you need
- The relationship level of the one character who grants it
What does not move it
- Selling dresses off the rack, however many you sell
- Commissions for any character other than the one who grants it
- Adding more accessories or decoration to a finished dress
- Higher quality scores on the dresses you submit
Taking Bolero Bodice as the worked example: the only thing that changes whether it is usable is one character's relationship level. Everything in the second column is a real system in this game that a player might reasonably assume is involved, and none of them touches the gate.
Questions this page owns
Locked patterns, missing items and hidden rows
The questions this page is the right home for. Anything about how the whole progress system works belongs to the progression guide instead.
- How do I unlock patterns in Dressmaker?
- In the extracted build, patterns are handed over by a character's relationship level. Look the specific pattern up to see which character holds it and which level it needs — the level is the gate, and the commission is only how the level moves.
- I finished a commission. Why didn't I unlock the pattern?
- A commission raises a relationship; a pattern unlocks when the relationship reaches the level that grants it. Those are not the same event, and a commission that moves the bar without crossing the next rung has done exactly what it should — it has moved you closer without unlocking anything yet.
- Why is my pattern completely missing?
- If the build says the pattern should be available — a starting pattern, or one behind a rung you have passed — and it is not visible, the likely cause is the current game state rather than an unlock requirement. Players have reported missing patterns and pieces reappearing after saving and reloading; that is a report rather than a guaranteed fix, so check the current version as well.
- Why are some items already unlocked on a new save?
- Players currently report that some unlocked fabrics and accessories remain available across save files, including after the old save is removed. This looks different from normal character progression, and it should not be used to infer how an item is meant to be unlocked.
- Can every fabric and accessory be unlocked?
- No. The extracted build contains 212 fabrics and 114 accessories that exist in the game's data with no normal player unlock route. They are not late-game rewards; there is no level, commission or prestige gate that reaches them.
- Why can't I unlock Hand Clasp?
- In the extracted build Hand Clasp is developer content rather than a progression item: it exists as an accessory with no player-facing unlock route. It is also the row behind the one accessory type a published brief counts, which is why the name comes up at all — the brief is real, the item is not obtainable.

Build notes
Everything countable here comes out of the extracted snapshot: the unlock split, the hidden-row counts and the example row. Everything about how the game currently behaves in the hand — a pattern that will not draw, unlock state surviving a save — is a player report about the current release, and it is labelled as one.

What would change this page
- The unlock census moves — a new extraction with a different split between relationship, starting and undocumented patterns
- A published patch note names relationship unlock behaviour, which would move this page from "unchanged" to "recently changed"
- A patch note or a reproduced report settles the missing-pattern behaviour instead of leaving it as a player report
- Unlock state stops carrying across save files, or the behaviour is explained in the game's own documentation
- A hidden row becomes obtainable — which would show up as the refusal list getting shorter, not as a new unlock route being written here
