Need a Style?
A style narrows the grid to the patterns that raise it, strongest contribution first.
These chips narrow the grid. Raising a style across a whole dress is the style pages’ answer, not this one.

Different variants of the same pattern can have different panel counts, panel areas and fabric usage. The Sketchbook shows one variant; the pattern ships the rest.

Why does one variant need more fabric?Browse Patterns by Unlock
Every pattern on this page can be obtained. The three states below are the ways the game hands one over.
Available from the start
40 patterns are available from the first day of a save, with nothing to meet and nobody to befriend first.
Relationship unlock
117 patterns arrive with a customer’s relationship level, from level 2 up to level 5. Open a pattern to see who hands it over.
Unlock source not documented
The game documents no normal unlock source for 21 patterns. They are listed with their real parts, panels and style contributions, and their state says so instead of guessing.
Patterns by Character
A pattern arrives with a customer and a relationship level, never with a quest. Open a character to see the ladder that hands theirs over.

Panel explorer
Pick a pattern and a variant to see the panels it actually cuts — how each one is laid on the cloth, and how much of the cut it takes.
The catalogue states 1,871 panels across 236 variants of 178 patterns, and 77 of those panels are flagged as cut on the bias.
- 12 panels
- 11 bias panels
- Fabric use: High
- Grain: Mixed
| Panel | Grain | Bias | Share of cut |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skirt Tier 1 Back | Bias | Bias cut | 8% |
| Skirt Tier 1 Back Right | Bias | Bias cut | 6% |
| Skirt Tier 1 Front | Bias | Bias cut | 8% |
| Skirt Tier 1 Left Back | Bias | Bias cut | 3% |
| Skirt Tier 1 Front Left | Bias | Bias cut | 3% |
| Skirt Tier 1 Front Right | Bias | Bias cut | 7% |
| Skirt Tier 2 Back | Straight grain | Straight | 10% |
| Skirt Tier 2 Back Right | Bias | Bias cut | 15% |
| Skirt Tier 2 Front | Bias | Bias cut | 10% |
| Skirt Tier 2 Left Back | Bias | Bias cut | 6% |
| Skirt Tier 2 Front Left | Bias | Bias cut | 7% |
| Skirt Tier 2 Front Right | Bias | Bias cut | 16% |
Panel shares come from the in-game meshes, so they describe the model rather than anything the game prints. Grain direction and bias are two different fields and they disagree on some panels — not every panel uses the same orientation.

How Patterns Work
A pattern is what you pick, a variant is how it is cut, and a panel is what lands on the cloth.
01
Pattern
The reusable piece you choose in the Sketchbook — a bodice, a skirt, a pair of sleeves or a collar.
02
Variant
A version of that pattern with its own panel structure and its own cloth estimate.
03
Panel
One piece placed on fabric and cut. The panel is what the scissors actually meet.
Official scale vs this database
The developer describes the full game as containing more than 150 dress pieces. This catalogue counts the game’s own pattern, variant and panel definitions as three separate things — 178 patterns, 236 variants and 1,871 panels — so the two numbers are not the same measurement.
Where this page's data comes from
Nothing on this page is written by hand. Each part of the table is read from one place in the game's own data:
- Pattern names
- Official in-game localization
- Pattern previews
- Official in-game artwork
- Variants and panels
- Game pattern definitions
- Unlock requirements
- Character relationship definitions
- Style contributions
- The game's own additive tag weights
- Fabric usage and panel share
- In-game pattern meshes

Patterns in Dressmaker
A dress is built from four kinds of pattern — a bodice, a skirt, a pair of sleeves and a collar — and the one you pick decides the shape of the piece rather than its colour or cloth. Four things change that decision: which part it cuts, which styles it helps, how much cloth the base variant needs, and whether it is within reach yet.
Style contributions are the game's own additive weights, and they can be negative: a pattern that fights a style carries it at a minus. A card shows the two strongest contributions in either direction, which is why a Gothic bodice does not read like a plain formal one. The full profile, and every construction variant a pattern ships, belong to the pattern's own page.
Fabric use is grouped into Low, Medium and High, cut at the thirds of the real distribution across all 178 patterns. The band is the answer to the question a player is asking; the exact estimate is what the fabric calculator is for, and here it only decides the order of a sort.
Construction is the other half of the choice. Panel count and whether the base variant cuts any panel on the bias both change how a piece hangs, and both are stated as facts of the pattern rather than as a judgement about it — a six-panel skirt is not worse than a two-panel one, it is different work.
Dressmaker pattern questions
How many patterns are in Dressmaker?
178 obtainable patterns, of which 73 appear in at least one validated commission solution.
What kinds of patterns are there?
Four: a bodice, a skirt, a pair of sleeves and a collar. Bodices alone are 67 patterns. A dress takes one of each, though sleeves and collars can be left off.
How are patterns unlocked?
40 are there from the start of a save. 117 come with a character’s relationship level. The remaining 21 have no documented acquisition route.
Who unlocks the pattern I want?
Search its name above, or use the unlock finder. Both name the character and the level instead of pointing at a general progression chart.
How do I find the best pattern for a style?
Open that style’s own page. It ranks the patterns and fabrics that lift it, because one pattern raising Formal does not settle what the rest of the dress should be.
Can one pattern have several pieces?
Yes. The catalogue holds 236 construction variants across its patterns, and every variant is cut from its own set of panels — 1,871 of them in total.
