How unlocks are wired

Four ways anything becomes available. Starting items need nothing, Prestige opens cloth and trimmings, relationships hand over patterns, and a small set carries no documented source at all.

How unlocks work in Dressmaker

Three ways anything becomes available, and they do not interact: a starting set that needs nothing, Prestige levels that open cloth and trimmings, and relationship levels that hand patterns over. Extra story or commission gates are listed only where the game states them.

Relationships unlock patterns

Deliver a client's commissions and the relationship advances. Each new level hands over the patterns listed above.

How progression works

Unlock questions

The things players ask most about progression, and the three questions this page gets asked about itself — answered from the same data as the map above.

  • How do you unlock Patterns in Dressmaker?

    By character friendship. Deliver a client's commissions and their relationship level rises; each new level hands over the patterns listed on their ladder. A smaller number of patterns are available from the start.

  • How do Fabric unlocks work?

    Fabrics are a Prestige ladder. Each one is either in the set a new save starts with or behind a Prestige level, and those are the only two cases in this build.

  • How do Accessory unlocks work?

    The same way as fabrics: available from the start, or behind a Prestige level. No accessory is tied to a character.

  • What unlocks at the next Prestige level?

    Open the Prestige unlocks view with your Prestige level filled in and your own rung is marked, with the next one opened beneath it. Without a level the same list still shows every milestone the build documents.

  • Why does an item show no documented source?

    The game's files carry the item but state no relationship level and no Prestige gate for it. That is different from being hard to get: this build has nothing to point you at, so it says so instead of inventing a route.

  • Why does an item still look locked even though I meet the listed level?

    The map only knows the numbers you have saved in this browser. If the level you recorded is right and the item is still out of reach in game, there is usually another condition the catalogue does not document — the unlock finder walks through that case.

  • Why does an item say it is not obtainable in normal gameplay?

    It exists in the game's files but sits outside normal progression: no relationship level and no Prestige gate hands it over. Searching for it here tells you that instead of inventing a route, because a made-up unlock path would send you to level a relationship that never gives the item up. If you met it while playing, it is not part of the catalogue you can collect.

  • What is the difference between this page and the Unlock Finder?

    This page is the map: what exists, where the gates sit, and what a level opens. The Unlock Finder is the route planner: name one item and it draws the exact steps from where you are to it.
