How fabrics work in Dressmaker

Fabrics affect more than the look of a dress. Each fabric has its own cost, colors and style contributions, which can affect whether a dress meets a commission requirement. Use the filters above to find fabrics for a specific style, color or budget, then open a fabric to see its full details and unlock information.

Choosing comes down to five facts. The material decides whether a brief accepts the dress at all, and the colour is checked the same way. The style values say how far the cloth pushes the dress toward a look. The price is paid once, at the shop. And the unlock level decides whether the fabric is on the shelf yet — a locked fabric at the right price is still not one you can use.

Every fabric here is one a player can obtain. The game build also ships developer and unreleased rows that carry no price, no artwork and a prestige level of -1; they are excluded from this page and from every count on it, which is why the catalogue reads 352 rather than a larger number.

Style weights are the game's own contribution numbers, and they can be negative: a burlap that detracts from Formal carries Formal at -10. The card shows the two strongest contributions either way, and the fabric's own page shows the whole profile.

    352 obtainable fabrics. 156 are available from the start and 196 sit behind a prestige level. Developer and unreleased entries are not part of that number.

  • How do I find a fabric for a specific style?

    Pick the style under Style in the filters. The grid then sorts by that style's score, highest first, and the minimum-score row lets you cut everything below a threshold — 50+ leaves only the fabrics the game counts as strong contributors.

  • What do the style numbers on a fabric card mean?

    They are the weights the game applies to a dress for using that fabric. A higher number raises the dress's score for that style; a negative one lowers it. Two fabrics with the same weight are worth the same to the dress, and cost is then the only difference.

  • Can I filter by cost?

    Yes. The quick chips step through the real price points in the catalogue — not round marketing bands — and the low and high boxes take any range. Prices run from 0 to 80.

  • Why are some fabrics missing from this list?

    Because they are not obtainable. The export marks 212 rows as hidden developer or unreleased content, with a prestige unlock level of -1. They carry no price and no swatch, and listing them would answer “can I use this?” with things no player can use.

  • How do I find an alternative to a fabric I cannot use?

    Open Find an Alternative, name the fabric and say why you are replacing it. The list keeps whichever of material, colour and style the reason asks it to keep, and every result prints what it gives up — more coins, a later unlock, a weaker contribution to the style you wanted.

  • Does a more expensive fabric make a better dress?

    No. Cost buys the cloth, not the score. Quality and Style come from the pattern, the cut, the trims and how the dress is assembled, so a cheap fabric with strong contributions can beat an expensive one that moves nothing.

  • How do I know when a fabric unlocks?

    Fabric unlocks are prestige levels. Each card prints the level its fabric needs, and once you enter your own level in the unlock finder every gated fabric is labelled with how many levels away it is.

The store description promises over 450 fabrics in the full release. That is the size of the game, not the size of our snapshot, and the two are not the same measurement.

Our extracted build holds 564 fabric rows. 212 of those are developer or unreleased rows with no price and no shop placement, which is why this page lists 352 and not 564.

Names come from the game’s own localization. Swatches are the real extracted assets, down to the Unity material colour where a fabric has no texture map. Types, colours, prices and style weights are read from game data. Unlock levels come from progression metadata.
